Picking Ultimate Team players gets expensive when you judge every card by its rating alone. Learning what each card type actually offers gives you more control over your squad and your spending. Before using your FC 27 Coins, work out whether you need a reliable starter, a specialist substitute, or someone you can develop through upgrades.

What Do FC 27 Player Card Types Mean

A card type tells you how a player item fits into Ultimate Team. It can signal a standard version, a performance reward, an upgrade route, or a collectible treatment.

You're free to mix different types across your squad. Keep the roles separate, though: appearance, match eligibility, and playing attributes aren't the same thing. Check released item details for features that haven't been confirmed.

1 Bronze, Silver, and Gold Cards

Base cards give you a starting point for comparing players. They're useful when you're building cheaply or filling specific squad requirements.

The rating groups are straightforward.

• Bronze covers players rated 64 or below.

• Silver covers players rated between 65 and 74.

• Gold covers players rated 75 or above.

Don't dismiss a lower category automatically. A quick Silver winger might handle a restricted objective better than an expensive Gold player you can't use there.

2 Team of the Week Cards

TOTW items suit players who want improvements tied to real football performances. Look at where the upgrade lands before paying extra.

Start with these comparisons.

• Check finishing and attacking movement when choosing a striker.

• Compare passing and stamina for midfield roles.

• Examine defensive attributes and pace for your back line.

A higher rating doesn't tell you whether the card solves your problem. If your forward already finishes well, a small shooting increase might change very little.

3 Campaign and Promotional Cards

Event cards are worth checking when your current setup needs something different. Their appeal depends on the actual changes attached to each release.

Look for useful differences.

• Attribute boosts can strengthen a player's existing role.

• Additional eligible positions can open another squad arrangement.

• Different PlayStyles may support the actions you use most.

Read the item details instead of buying for the artwork. You'll get more value from a midfielder who suits your passing habits than a popular card that feels awkward.

4 ICONs, Heroes, and Hall of FUT

These names point toward football history and memorable players. They appeal if you want familiar favourites alongside practical squad options.

Keep their identities clear.

• ICONs represent celebrated players from football's past.

• Heroes highlight players remembered for major club or league contributions.

• Check confirmed FC 27 information before treating Hall of FUT as an available category.

Compare the exact item's chemistry rules, positions, and attributes. A famous name can be fun to own, but you'll still need a role that suits how you play.

5 Evolution Cards

Evolutions suit players who enjoy improving someone already in their club. Your choice starts with eligibility, then moves to the upgrade requirements.

Check these details first.

• Make sure your player meets every entry requirement.

• Review the available attribute and PlayStyle improvements.

• Check completion deadlines and restrictions on later upgrade paths.

Don't commit just because a player qualifies. Pick someone you'll actually use, and make sure you've got time to finish the required matches.

6 Loan and Holographic Cards

Loans help you try players before committing resources. Visual variants serve a different purpose, so separate playing value from collecting value.

Check what you're receiving.

• Loan items carry a limited match allowance.

• Mode rules determine where loans can be used.

• Verify any Holographic version's availability and attributes through its released item details.

Use loans where their allowance matters most. For a visual variant, compare the underlying player version before assuming the appearance brings better performance.

Which Card Type Should You Choose

Choose base cards for affordable starters, TOTW for targeted improvements, campaigns for different roles, legends for favourite players, Evolutions for development, and loans for trials. Collect visual variants if collecting matters to you. If you're planning to buy FC27 Coins, decide which squad weakness deserves attention first and set a spending limit before choosing your next player.
